Expired cards between January 1, 2019 - June 30, 2020

Expired cards between January 1, 2019 - June 30, 2020
You may still have rights to medical insurance and access to health care services.

In these extraordinary times of COVID-19, SZV is finding new ways to continue to serve its customers to the best of our abilities while adhering to Government measures for public health and safety. We recognize that many customers have expired medical insurance cards and are inquiring on their insurance status.

In order to provide medical care and treatment to our customers, our contracted health care providers have access to an online portal (HECINA) to help them verify the insurance status of our customers. Under special conditions, temporary measures have been put in place to allow SZV customers with expired cards to get access to health care without having to directly request a card renewal first by SZV.

The Director of SZV has made the following decision:

If your SZV medical insurance card has expired or will expire between January 1, 2019 and June 30, 2020: you may still have rights to medical insurance and you will be able to receive medical care/treatment from local health care providers. The health care provider will be able to provide you with service by confirming your insurance status online, without the need of a physical SZV card.

Steps to take if you need medical care/treatment from a local health care provider:

Step 1: When contacting/visiting health care providers, provide a valid Sint Maarten ID card or valid passport. NO Driver’s license.

Step 2: Your health care provider will check your insurance status online and inform you/give treatment or service.

Valid status: If your insurance status is valid, this means that you still have rights to SZV medical insurance and you will receive treatment/care from the health care provider.

Not-valid status: If your insurance status is not-valid, this means that based on the information of SZV, you no longer have rights to SZV medical insurance, an action is required. You can contact SZV directly for more information on the next steps regarding your medical insurance.
